Airbus said on Friday it delivered 61 aircraft in August, bringing the total for the first eight months of 2025 to 434 jets, down 3% from a year earlier. The figure confirmed a Reuters report published earlier in the week.

The planemaker also booked an order for 90 jets from Irish lessor Avolon, following shareholder approval for the fleet expansion last month. In all, Airbus has secured 600 gross orders this year, or a net 504 after cancellations. The August tally included an order for seven A350-1000s from an undisclosed customer.

Airbus is targeting 820 deliveries in 2025, up from 766 last year, and has said handovers should accelerate in the final months of the year. Analysts warn that to meet the goal, the company must achieve a record pace after facing delays in engines and seats.

In July, the company reaffirmed its annual target of “around 820” deliveries despite ongoing supply issues. It has been grappling with engine shortages, caught in a tug of war with supplier CFM as airlines seek spare units, while also citing delays from Pratt & Whitney.

To manage the disruption, Airbus has been producing so-called “gliders” — aircraft without engines — and had around 60 in the system at mid-year.

The company has said that once engines arrive, it takes one to two months to complete assembly and prepare the aircraft for delivery. That puts pressure on the third quarter as Airbus works to close the gap and keep its annual goal within reach.

Based on the 434 deliveries so far this year, Airbus will need to hand over an average of 96.5 aircraft per month between September and December to meet its 2025 target. That would surpass the company’s previous peak pace for the same period, which averaged 92 aircraft a month in 2018 and 91 in 2019.
