A unit of Ant Group put over 60 billion yuan ($8 billion) worth of energy infrastructure and power assets onto its blockchain, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.
Ant Digital Technologies is tracking the power output and potential outages of some 15 million new energy devices in China and uploading the data to its blockchain, which is known as AntChain, the report said.
The Jack Ma-backed firm has begun issuing some tokens linked to the assets, and has raised at least 300 million yuan in total for the firms operating the power assets, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
One option being considered for future expansion is putting tokens on offshore decentralized exchanges to draw in even more capital, the Bloomberg report said.
