Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS) announced Monday that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to air on Tuesday, following a suspension of the ABC late-night show over controversial comments made about the assassination of Republican activist Charlie Kirk.
The company had suspended production last Wednesday, stating they made the decision "to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country." Disney added that "some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive."
Disney officials spent several days in discussions with Kimmel before reaching the decision to resume broadcasting the show. "We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday," the company said in its statement.
The show’s return marks the end of a nearly week-long suspension following the controversial remarks.
