Supabase, a database startup that provides back-end services for so-called “vibe coding” companies such as Lovable, is in talks with investors on a funding round that could lift its valuation to at least $5 billion, The Information reported on Monday, citing people with direct knowledge.
The San Francisco-based company was last valued at $2 billion in a round led by Accel, the report said.
Supabase builds developer tools on top of the open-source PostgreSQL database and competes with Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Firebase by offering subscription-based database management software, along with a free tier.
The startup has seen rapid growth alongside the boom in AI-powered coding assistants, which require robust back-end databases to support applications. Supabase recently told prospective investors its revenue had jumped to a $70 million annual run rate, up from $20 million a year earlier, the report said.
Supabase has raised nearly $400 million from investors including Accel, Felicis, Coatue Management, and Craft Ventures, according to The Information’s report.
