Young workers are fearful that advances in artificial intelligence could cost them their jobs, while their older colleagues are not as bothered, according to analysts at Deutsche Bank.

Citing a survey from dbDataInsights, the bank said that nearly one quarter of people in the first half of their careers are "very concerned" that AI will replace them in the next two years.

Out of a survey of 10,000 people living in the U.S. and major European economies, some 24% of respondents between the ages of 18-34 years old gave a score of 8 or above on a 0-to-10 scale of worry.

However, just 10% of survey participants aged 55 or older gave the same answer, the Deutsche Bank survey conducted from June to August showed.

"The findings reveal a generational and geographical gap in adoption and trust, strong demand for AI training, and workers’ efforts to educate themselves," the Deutsche Bank analysts including Adrian Cox wrote in a note.

Workers appear to be anticipating the risk of AI to their jobs increasing over time, they flagged. When asked about the outlook over a five-year time period, 22% of respondents said they were very worried about the impact of the nascent technology on their positions.

Americans seem to be more concerned than their European peers as well, with the score roughly five percentage points higher for every time period -- a result the analysts said was suggestive of "greater awareness and expectation of rapid adoption" of AI.
