AMC Theatres (NYSE:AMC) CEO CEO Adam Aron said on Monday evening that a promotional movie for pop star Taylor Swift’s new album clocked a strong domestic and international gross in its three-day run.
“As the global distributor, AMC orchestrated a gross of $34 million domestically and $16 million in the rest of the world. More than $50 million globally, #1 at the box office,” Aron said in a social media post.
“Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” was released for a limited run in the October 3-5 weekend, and was seen garnering a positive critical and commercial reception. The movie is on the making of Swift’s 12th studio album, “Life of a Showgirl,” which was released concurrently with the movie.
AMC shares, however, showed little positive reaction to the strong weekend box office, falling 5% on Monday. Shares of the company are trading down more than 20% so far in 2025, amid heightened concerns over AMC’s large debt obligations.
Last week, the company said it reduced its debt load by about $40 million by cancelling a portion of senior secured exchangeable notes due 2030.
AMC previously collaborated with Swift in 2023 and had distributed a filmed version of the “Swift Eras Tour” concert, which proved to be highly lucrative for the theatre chain.
