OpenAI said on Thursday it was releasing its cheapest ChatGPT subscription to 16 more countries in Asia, after successful pilots in India and Indonesia.
The artificial intelligence startup said the subscription– called ChatGPT Go– will now be available in 16 more Asian countries, which include Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
The tier will be priced in the country’s local currency, and costs roughly $4.5 a month. ChatGPT Go offers 10 times more messaging limits and image generations over the free service.
OpenAI vice president and head of ChatGPT Nick Turley said the Go subscription was designed to offer the AI service’s most popular features at a more affordable price.
Turley had earlier said the service was aimed at boosting ChatGPT’s subscriber figures, especially across cost-conscious, high-population emerging markets. ChatGPT Go was first launched in India this year, and had effectively doubled the start-up’s subscribers in the country.
Indonesia was the second country to receive the Go subscription, just a month after the India launch. The two countries are among OpenAI’s biggest user bases.
