USA Rare Earth Inc (NASDAQ:USAR) shares jumped on Thursday after Chief Executive Barbara Humpton told CNBC the company is in “close communication” with the White House over potential investment.
The stock gained over 23% in regular trading and rose another 10% after hours to $25.03.
Humpton’s remarks come days after the Trump administration disclosed a 5% equity stake in Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAR). The moves underscore Washington’s push to expand domestic control of critical minerals and reduce reliance on Chinese imports.
USA Rare Earth is developing a mine in Sierra Blanca, Texas, and a magnet production facility in Stillwater, Oklahoma, as part of its “mine-to-magnet” strategy.
A day earlier, reports showed that the Trump administration offered to take stakes in Australian critical minerals companies.
