Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) is overhauling a portion of its Reality Labs division into focusing on artificial intelligence, Business Insider reported on Wednesday, citing a leaked memo.
The Instagram owner has overhauled roles, titles, and team structures across a 1000-employee team in its Reality Labs division into AI-native “pods,” the report said.
Reality Labs is at the heart of Meta’s virtual reality and augmented reality efforts, including the Metaverse platform and the Quest headset line.
The division was hit by layoffs as recently as Wednesday, amid a broader shift in Meta towards AI development.
