China’s BYD Co (HK:1211) expects exports to account for about 20% of its global sales this year as improved logistics and new model launches support international growth, the South China Morning Post reported on Monday.
Li Yunfei, BYD’s general manager of branding and public relations, told SCMP that the company projected 800,000 to 1 million deliveries outside mainland China in 2025, compared with total estimated sales of 4.6 million units.
That would mark a sharp increase from 2024, when exports made up less than 10% of the 4.26 million vehicles sold, according to the SCMP report.
Hong Kong-listed shares of the company rose 1.5% to HK$108.4 as of 03:22 GMT.
BYD has built up a fleet of eight car-carrier ships, the largest of which can transport 9,200 vehicles, to accelerate exports to Europe and Southeast Asia.
It also plans to expand its overseas line-up and double its European showrooms to 2,000 by 2026, while its Hungary plant is due to start production early next year, the report added.
The Shenzhen-based company remains China’s largest electric vehicle maker by sales.
