U.S. Central Command said in a post on X that the "strike destroyed naval mine storage facilities, missile storage bunkers, and multiple other military sites. U.S. forces successfully struck more than 90 Iranian military targets on Kharg Island, while preserving the oil infrastructure."

Two oil tankers were seen docked at Iran’s Kharg Island export terminal hours after U.S. strikes at military installations there, satellite tracking firm TankerTrackers.com said, suggesting oil shipments from the facility may still be continuing.

The escalation comes as Brent crude continues to trade near the $100-per-barrel mark, fueled by a 90% collapse in daily tanker transits through the world’s most vital energy chokepoint.

Economist Mohamed A. El-Erian said the developments could have triggered a sharp market reaction if trading had been open.

"Adding to the stagflationary winds already blowing through the global economy, the market impact of these latest developments in the Middle East War would not have been limited to oil. We likely would have seen significant losses across many other market segments." El-Erian said on a post on X.
