Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reportedly meet US President Donald Trump at the Group of Seven leaders' summit next week, which would mark their first face-to-face meeting since tensions arose over Pakistan a year ago.
Both leaders are expected to attend the G-7 summit from June 15-17 in Évian-les-Bains, France. A formal bilateral meeting has not been announced and plans for any contact are not yet finalized, according to a Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter.
Modi visited Trump at the White House in February 2025 as one of the first leaders to meet with the US president after he took office. Relations between the two countries deteriorated months later following brief military clashes between India and Pakistan. Trump has repeatedly claimed he helped broker a ceasefire between the two countries, assertions that New Delhi has rejected. The US president has since developed strong personal ties with Pakistan's leaders.
Trump imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods last year to penalize the country for its trade barriers and purchasing oil from Russia. The tariffs were reduced earlier this year and the two sides are now negotiating a new trade deal.
Officials are exploring the possibility of a meeting on the margins of the gathering, the report said.
